Calistoga

Aziz and I just got back from five days in Calistoga. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. Going on vacation is always interesting with Aziz as he is not one to make reservations. Not even when we were traveling through Morocco was he willing to make a hotel reservation. I have come to accept this about him.
Trying to take a weekend in Napa valley with no reservations in the summer can be a challenge. We ended up having a blast though. The first place we stayed was the Roman Spa Hotel. We've stayed here a number of times and have always enjoyed it. It seems to be the hotel of choice for people 65+. Aside from the few families with young children, we were probably the youngest people there. The first night we stayed in a room with a jacuzzi tub. The second night we moved into a larger room with a little kitchenette. The pool is surrounded by astro turf an palm trees. Its really quite a kick.

Me catching some rays.

The Roman Spa was sold out on Saturday so we moved over to Dr. Wilkensen's Hot Springs which feels like a 1940's health spa meets motel. The pools were great- the room not so much.

Dinner at a restaurant called Wappo- the food is always great there. I had a fantastic Duck Confit salad. They also have really good non-alcoholic spritzers. I am drinking an elder flower concoction of some sort. It was delicious!

Finally the last night we were there we got in to Indian Springs which is a resort I've always wanted to stay at but is always sold out. We were lucky enough to get a room there our last night in Calistoga. It was worth every penny! The property was beyond beautiful and pool was spectacular- it was huge, warm and well decorated. It was so nice, Aziz actually said we should be sure to make reservations next time to assure we can stay for our whole trip.
I'll expand on this trip more later- just wanted to get some pic's up for everyone to enjoy!

We found a really good bbq spot in St. Helena. We had lunch there all five days.

The last day we were there we made a stop at the old faithful geyser.

Wow, vacation... what's that like? :) We went to VA, of course, but I was ill and it was hot!!! Want to go on a cruise...with no kids, we would lose Lily over the edge in the first 5 minutes any way as she chased a pod of dolphins! I rally like that pic of you in front of the umbrellas.. you should use it as your profpic cause the lighting is just really good. Aziz looks nice and I like his hat... looks like he came out of the late 50's :) You guys ever get close to TN.?

Does Wappo still roast their yummy potatoes in duck fat? Those potatoes + red wine = delish!!

I'm glad you both had a nice time on your trip. No mud baths??

That was nice. By the way, you're sure the pool was shot just after the sunset ? Wasn't it just before ? It seems I can see some sunlight on the mountains in the background...

HUMMM! Is "littlehorn" one of those ""stupid french people""??

Now this is what I call a Photographer's Blog!! Loved the pictures. Of course they make me wish I was there also. But just for a little while. After last night, I wouldn't want to be away from my desert for long. Your dad, Boyd and I sat out on their front porch while it sprinkled on us (I had to have a jacket on!!) and so very much enjoyed each other and what God has given us.
